Reflexology NRRI

 foot12feet34

What is Reflexology?

A Holistic Healing method which involves pressure and massage of the reflex points found on the feet and hands. These reflexes act as small mirrors reflecting the body.

Reflexology teaches that vital energy or life force circulates between the organs of the body permeating every living cell and tissue. If this energy becomes blocked, the part of the body relating to the blockage is affected. Energy blocks in the human body are reflected on the hands and feet in one or more of the zones located there.

By using specific pressure techniques, they can be detected through the experience of pain, or the presence of “gritty, lumpy or congested” areas containing crystal deposits. These occur in the part of the foot or hand that relates to the part of the body that is imbalanced.

The pressure techniques used in Reflexology are designed to dissipate energy blocks and breakdown crystalline structure. Thorough stimulation of the circulatory and lymphatic systems and by encouraging the release of toxins, reflexology promotes the body to heal itself.

Apart from treating disease, Reflexology is an extremely effective therapy in cases of STRESS, TENSION and TIREDNESS ad INFERTILITY and like Acupuncture; it can also be used as a preventative measure against ill health.

What to expect in at your first Treatment

Your first treatment will include a detailed confidential consultation about your general health and lifestyle. This will involve your completing a client consultation form and a discussion with your therapist, during this time you can mention any problem areas and discuss what you’d like to gain from the treatment.

Once this is completed satisfactorily, the therapist will then carry out a thorough foot assessment by reading and noting down any areas on your feet where you may require further or less stimulation, this will take into account texture, temperature, colour, odour, tone, mobility, skeletal deformities and nail and foot conditions. This enables the therapist to get a good idea of what you need before commencing the treatment. It is advisable that a minimum course of 4-6 treatments (one per week) should be taken to ensure maximum results. FIRST VISIT 60mins/OTHERS 45mins

I have been involved in holistic bodywork for many years and am passionate about all forms of complementary medicine, that’s why I was drawn to the MNRRI as the regulatory body for Reflexology. I really believe in all they stand for and the way they keep up to date on all aspects of reflexology and promote it throughout Ireland. Their knowledge is second to none. I am also the regional representative for Connemara for The complementary Therapists Association (ChTA – Embody) and the Irish Massage Therapists Association. I have just completed two years in as a voluntary board member for baby massage ireland as their Newsletter Coordinator and have always immersed myself in knowledge from many different aspects of body work. My  qualifications include her being a Neuromuscular and Physical therapist, with specialities in Myofacial Trigger Point Needling, a Massage Practitioner, a Qualified Aromatherapist, and a Reiki Practitioner, I currently works in the special needs sector and also work in immunity care settings. I have done voluntary work in the UK and Ireland and try to promote Reflexology and Bodywork throughout Ireland and Europe.

What I would really love to see is complementary therapies being offered in more Irish hospitals and health centres, with remedial massage being available on medica cards, especially in the west of Ireland such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Stress Management, Immunity Care and Remedial Massage alongside Physiotherapy and Osteopathy as I personally believe this will help with recovery times, reducing the waiting lists in the hospitals and also to help with the reduction of stress which I feel is one of the largest causes of illnesses in today’s busy environment.

If it was up to me Complementary Therapies would be available on medical cards as well as through the already available private health companies in Ireland.
